Kushal Das further confirmed that India coach Stephen Constantine would have a full strength Team India at his disposal for the tournament, which in Nepal 2013, India had lost the title to Afghanistan following a 0-2 final defeat in Kathmandu.
The SAFF Cup had originally been planned to be played in June 2015, but due to the congested Indian football calendar and the onset of the monsoons, the South Asian Football Federation decided to postpone the competition.
In total eight nations would compete for the title. Amongst them defending champions Afghanistan, hosts India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
